SHINE with SHINA 2006

Venue:  The Arbor Ballroom,

Washington Times Building, Washington, DC

Date:  28th October 2006

The SHINE with SHINA 2006 annual fundraising gala was a spectacular event that brought together a myriad of people who support the SHINA Inc. vision and mission, as well as the programs geared toward the support of those who need it most. Our theme for year 2006 is “There is no insignificant Work and No Unimportant Life”

Below is a synopsis of the event.

The keynote speaker was Dr. Wanjiru Kamau, Founder of the African Immigration Foundation (AIRF) of Washington, DC.

scan0021        Culture and law makes a difference on how an immigrant adjusts in any country.  We must work together to educate, empower and lend a hand.

If you are not proud of whom you are, how do you expect a stranger to understand you and your culture let alone your problems.

We immigrants we must speak up and get involved in the communities we live in.  We can no longer afford to sit idle waiting for help to come to us.

Congratulations SHINA Inc for the efforts you are making to educate and empower the community at large.  I am honored to speak tonight and look forward to working with you in the future

Special guest speaker, Ms. Angie Ruiz, Hollywood Actress and Humanitarian, graced the evening with a wonderful message.

a._ruiz          My admiration for East African Woman encouraged me to reach out in Arusha Tanzania as a volunteer for Orphans and Widows under WAMATA.

The efforts made by SHINA Inc, is very evident in the work they are doing.  It is not How much you give it is who you give it to and how it is used.  A little from each goes a long way if the beneficiaries are empowered to manage projects themselves. I look forward to working with SHINA Inc and thank you for giving me an opportunity to speak at this third annual gathering event.

Our narrator for the evening Ms. Anna Mwalagho of  Mwalagho Productions. .  Ms. Mwalagho is an international recognized singer, dancer, poet and storyteller.  Her feisty spirit, enthusiasm and poetry sparked the evening.

August 20, 2006 in Dar es Salaam.  Our vision is to promote women and children welfare, to enable women to survive economically, socially and culturally.

SHINA Association was operating as CBO (Community Based organizations) from 2003 to 2006 before registering as a Non Governmental Organization (NGO) this year.

..Our unique approach to make sure the support provided reaches where it should and accountability of leadership is what made SHINA Association Tanzania very successful since inception.

...There is so much need in Africa.  I ask each and everyone with a strong conviction to search your hearts and lend a hand to help the homeless children, an orphan, widows with no place to go, and our youth to generate employment.  Together, let us help your Mother, my mother, your sister, my sister, your neighbor and my neighbor....."Thank you
