Art and Essence of Adulthood
SHINA has worked extensively with numerous faith based organizations over the last years primarily offering life skills programs for youth in Prince Georges County and Washington DC.
Alternative Learning Project
SHINA works with Prince Georges County Public Schools to provide ways of addressing alternative learning opportunity. This program covers cultural enrichment and community services abroad, a summer cultural bridging voices program as a life skill.
Public Awareness and Citizen Engagement
This is imperative in educating, eradicating poverty, disease and ignorance. SHINA has been conducting annual gathering every year focusing on addressing these issues through its project known as SHINE with SHINA |
Collaboration and Partnership
In the United States we are collaborating with churches and other organizations with similar mission driven organizations to extend and strengthen its work. And effectuate a common purpose of uplifting the lives of the served group. In supported regions in Africa, partnerships afford SHINA to have greater impact in these regions by maximizing on resources needed to more efficiently provide for women, youth and children in need of help.
Education: Orphans and Vulnerable Children:
HIV/AIDS orphans are many. Some of them do not qualify for assistance from big donors for one reason or another.
There are also quite a number of destitute/street children. SHINA Inc assists some of these children with school uniforms, shoes, bags, exercise books, bus fare and mosquito nets. The funds were entrusted to their respective school headmistress who ensured that each beneficiary received the items they required. Conducive learning environment provides a change in the lives of young ones we serve. In the area for elementary level education, we strive to provide quality Education for all, and give a chance to the children who have never been to school before. In Tanzania due to "No child left behind" policy they found themselves having a ration of 100:1 student to teacher. Not only is it impossible to teach, it is impossible for a child to learn in this environment. As a pilot project SHINA Association collaborate with various government schools to bridge the gap.
HIV/Aids Awareness Education:
Community mobilization is the key to success in bringing awareness and education to the residents and that there is hope if we work together. We hold monthly seminars in collaboration with other NGO'S, CBOs, faith-based and religious institutions among others, to enable the community have a deeper understanding of the effects of issues, taking into account the sensitivity of culture within the communities around. These seminars cover the safety of testing in case of HIV/AIDS, personal hygiene, diet, social behavior, implications and limitations of culture and referral to medical services.
We provide direct distribution of vitamins, food, and clothing among other items and resources, as this goes a long way to making the community not only more aware, but also enabled. We give direct assistance to individuals in treatment of other common diseases which accelerates HIV into AIDS, for instance, Malaria, Typhoid, TB among others.
